Anne Milton MP joins South West Trains for ‘Try the Train’ day at Guildford

Following the success of its ‘Try the Train’ days, South West Trains has announced plans to hold an event at Guildford station, giving disabled passengers an opportunity to explore train travel.

The event, which will be held on Thursday 29 October, will highlight the accessibility of train travel for groups including disabled and older people, wheelchair users, people with visual or hearing impairments and those with learning difficulties.

Michelle Kynaston, Access and Integration Manager for South West Trains explains: “We are aware that transport plays a crucial role in people’s lives but we know that for many lack of confidence or knowledge can often prevent them from travelling by train.

“Our ‘Try the Train’ days have proved very popular and useful to the local community, and we hope people come and join us at Guildford on 29 October to find out just how easy train travel can be.”

Anne Milton, MP for Guildford, who will be joining South West Trains at the event added: “I am very pleased that SWT have organised the opportunity for people with disabilities to try out facilities at the station and on the trains. I meet regularly with SWT and local people to highlight some of the issues people have. It’s good to have an opportunity specifically to address issues for disabled people.

The aim of ‘Try the Train’ is to introduce train travel to disabled people who may not know the extent of the accessibility on the trains, and those who have not used the train before. It will also provide a forum for those who regularly use accessible public transport to discuss their experiences with South West Trains.

The event will provide information about rail travel, specific rail journeys, information about getting assistance during journeys and an opportunity to experience train travel first hand.

The event is open to individuals, carers and local groups and will run in 3 sessions throughout the day at Guildford Station. To book a place, call 07979 744815
