ANNE MILTON MP SUPPORTS BASKETBALL AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL!
Alan McClafferty, Managing Director of Guildford Heat, was in Parliament yesterday as part of a British Basketball League initiative, lobbying MPs to form an All-Party Parliamentary Group to promote the interests of basketball in the UK.
McClafferty said, 'Basketball is the third most played team sport amongst boys and girls over 15 years-of-age and has grown by over a 135% in the last 6 years, so basketball has definitely earned this kind of support'.
Anne Milton, MP for Guildford, and a strong supporter of Guildford Heat, was vocal in her support of the new Group saying:
'It’s great that an All-Party Parliamentary Group for basketball has been set up. I am very much doing what I can to support it. The start of this Parliamentary Group is recognition, not just of growing interest in basketball, but of the important role basketball teams, such as the fantastic Guildford Heats, can play in local communities. They give enjoyment to adults and children alike, and, in the case of the Heats, actively promote the wider benefits of healthy living and social responsibility, which are so vital, especially for children'.
