It is a tremendous privilege and honour to have been elected as Member of Parliament for Guildford. I am thoroughly enjoying my life both in the Constituency and in Westminster and it's wonderful to have the opportunity to meet so many of you. One of the biggest issues facing Guildford, Cranleigh and our surrounding villages is the impact of the South East Plan; this continues to cause considerable concern to local people and all the MPs across Surrey. The Plan will see Guildford and Waverley’s housing expand substantially but with no prospect of extra Government money to fund the necessary infrastructure improvements. I have written to the Government on many occasions, tabled parliamentary questions and spoken on the floor of the House of Commons but the tension between house building, inadequate infrastructure and the use of green belt land continues. The Government intend to launch a consultation on the Plan during the summer and I would urge everyone to respond to this when the final Plan is published. However it will coincide with the holiday period and I continue to press for extra time for the consultation. Please do contact me if you would like more information about this or any other issue that concerns you.
